If you want to lose money on every attempt, there is a small town in west Texas (Sonora) where you can lose everything you could earn elsewhere. I've been losing money here since I returned. Back in 2021 I attempted to return to this town to try to help a small community where I have family roots. But it's now 2026 and all I have learned is that there is a reason unemployment rates here are 6.1% and the first thing every kid who graduates wants to do is leave.

The most recent example of Sonora, Texas at its finest and most ignorant happened this morning. I was curious who in the school district here I could speak with about setting up a scholarship for students. Before I could say more than excuse me, I was dismissed rudely by four of our local school teachers. In their view, I'm not one of "them." My family isn't married to the right family. They look at my sandals and black t-shirt and assume things. Granted the only folks who lose in this case are the kids.

I give up! Investing in Sonora, Texas was the dumbest move I've ever made because these people don't want to improve their community or fix their problems. They revel in poverty and pretend its everyone else's fault but their own.
